He was born in 1963. Dr. Shen got his professor and doctoral supervisor titles in 2003 and 2004 at Zhejiang University, respectively. Dr. Shen is also the PI of 985-Institute of Agrobiology and Environmental Sciences of Zhejiang University (985 Project of MOE). In Jul. 2009, Dr. Shen was employed by Zhejiang Gongshang University as "West Laker Scholar". In Dec. 2009, Dr. Shen was employed by the Government of Zhejiang Province as"Qiantang River Senior Talent & Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang Province". He is currently the person in charge of the Innovative Research Team in Higher Educational Institutions of Zhejiang Province (Treatment technology and industrialization of life waste from village and town), the council of Zhejiang Renewable Energy Association, the editorial board member of Environmental Pollution and Control (Journal in Chinese), and the expert group member of solid waste in National Environmental Science Association. Dr. Shen is the main draftsman of "Handling faculty program of hazardous waste of Zhejiang province" and "Pollution control program of solid waste of Zhejiang province". He also is the special invited reviewer of journals including Acta Scientiae Circumstantiae (in Chinese), China Environmental Science (in Chinese), Environmental Science (in Chinese), Environmental Science & Technology, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Waste Management, etc.
Nowadays, Dr. Shen has directed 4 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects of Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 UNESCO Research Plan, and several projects of Significant Science and Technology Project of Zhejiang province. He has published more than 60 papers in journals including Bioresource Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Waste Management, Chemosphere, Acta Scientiae Circumstantiae (in Chinese) in the recent five years, and has been authorized 10 invention patents and more than 10 utility model patents, respectively. He has won 4 times the Science and Technology Award (Second award) of Zhejiang Provincial (one time as ranking 1), 1 time the Science and Technology Award (2nd award) of Zhejiang Education Commission (as ranking 1), and 2 times the Science and Technology Progress Award (2nd and 3rd award, respectively) of Zhejiang Provincial Environmental Protection (as ranking 1). His course of "Environmental Microbiology" got the National excellent course (as ranking 4), and the course of "Reforming and Practicing Experience in Environmental Microbiology" won the Teaching achievement prize (1st award) of Zhejiang University (as ranking 4).
Dr. Shen's current research projects include "Effect and mechanism of anaerobic iron-oxidizing bacteria to nitrogen removal in landfill", "Research and demonstration on the key technologies of recycle and treatment of fly and bottom ash from hazardous waste incineration", "Research and demonstration on the key technologies of coprocessing fly ash from hazardous waste incineration by cement kiln", and "Research on the key technologies of utilization as resource of organic waste from city and countryside".
